Shea Butter & Superfatting!!

Shea Butter & Superfatting!!

I think that the biggest compliment that I get about our Sudsy Bars is how much more moisturizing they are than other bars. Some even say that they do not have to use lotion after every shower or bath since they have started using Sudsy Bars! There are a couple of reasons for that. First of all I SUPERFAT all of my bars. Second...the amount of SHEA BUTTER that goes into each bar.

What is superfatting? Each oil that I use has a saponification value. That means the amount of lye it takes to turn 1 oz of oil into 1 oz of soap.  We superfat by adding extra butters and oils that "free float" in the soap, that act as an amazing moisuturizer for your skin! Pretty cool, huh?

One of the butters that we use a lot of is Shea Butter. Shea Butter actually comes from a Shea Nut. Raw Shea Butter is an amazing, rich moisturizer. It's ideal in using it to make soap because it helps soften and nourish your skin. Some awesome properties of Shea Butter are:

  • high in vitamin E, A, and C which are all antioxidants.
  • contains naturally occurring antibacterial compounds
  • natural anti inflammatory
  • soothes skin irritations or rashes

Our Healthy Hands Lotion Bar is also full of Raw Shea butter! Customers are going crazy over our lotion bars, and I believe the reason they love them so much is because of the large amount of Shea Butter I put into them. When my hands are dry and itchy, this bar instantly soothes my skin and it feels amazing once the oils and butters are all absorbed in. I can even wash my hands a couple times before reapplying. I use this bar daily! You can use it on elbows, feet or any area that needs help with hydration.
